POSITION DESCRIPTION: Patrol Officers are responsible for the protection of life and property, the prevention/suppression of criminal activity, the apprehension of criminal offenders, the preliminary investigation of calls for police service, and directed patrol of Seton Hill University grounds, facilities,
buildings, and properties. Patrol Officers will ensure the safety and security of all University buildings, facilities, employees, residents, students, faculty, and visitors.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Patrol Officers determine how to respond to difficult or emergency situations, when to call for outside police or E.M.S. assistance (in many cases this decision must be made instantaneously).
  • Patrol Officers determine when to issue verbal and written warnings, citations, parking tickets, and criminal complaints.
  • Patrol Officers respond to requests for assistance and conduct incident and accident investigations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma (or equivalent), PA Driver’s License, PA Act 235 Certification, First Aid training, and CPR training are required. PA Act 120 Municipal Police Officer certification is required.
  • Candidate must be able to pass MPOTEC firearms training and certification and a required background investigation.
  • The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, in person and by telephone. The individual must also be able to drive a vehicle and to handle situations involving physical strength and agility; must be able to deal with heights. The incumbent may be assigned to work on daylight, afternoon or
    midnight shifts; will be required to work some holidays; and may be required to work mandatory overtime to ensure minimum shift coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience working as a certified local, state, or federal law enforcement officer.
