Prepare to Become a Successful Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

While all CPA's are accountants, not every accountant is a CPA. The in-depth study and continuing training it takes to become (and remain) a CPA prepares accountants with this credential to practice independently or in a wide variety of industries. At Seton Hill, you can earn all of the credit hours needed to sit for the CPA exam in Pennsylvania. You also have the option to move straight into our MBA Program, and complete all of the academic requirements necessary to become licensed, while earning two degrees at a reduced tuition rate. Interested in an accounting career but not certain you want to commit to a CPA? Gain hands-on accounting experience through a comprehensive, supervised internship, such as the one Seton Hill offers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program supervised by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

Your Accounting Career

Accountants and auditors work in a strong field with continued predicted growth, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2023, the median annual pay topped $79,000. Seton Hill’s Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) will work with you, your professors, and local, regional and national employers to provide you with the career preparation skills, internship opportunities and placement services you need to keep moving up.

Becoming Licensed

All 50 states require a bachelor’s degree with at least 150 credit hours of coursework to become a licensed CPA. Some states (including Pennsylvania) will let you sit for the CPA Exam with 120 hours of study, though you still must complete 150 hours before you can apply for a license. Through Seton Hill's FastForward to an MBA Program, you can earn all 150 academic credit hours while also earning two degrees.
