Penn-Trafford Apprenticeship Program Offers Classroom Experience, Tuition and Stipends to Seton Hill Education Graduate Students
As part of the Reach Forward Program, Penn-Trafford School District will offer tuition remission for graduate students completing one or two years of service. If students complete one year of the program, 50% of their tuition will be paid for by Penn-Trafford. If they complete two years, 100% of their tuition for the program will be covered.
The tuition remission is available for all graduate-level education programs offered at Seton Hill - with the exception of certificates - but there are a limited number of places available in this partnership.
“Penn Trafford School District is happy to partner with Seton Hill for the Reach Forward Program,” said Peggy Juliane, Human Resources Director for Penn-Trafford School District. “The program provides Seton Hill’s students with the opportunity to gain valuable experience and allows Penn Trafford to have the valuable support we need for our students and teachers.”
“Our partnership with Penn-Trafford School District reflects a shared commitment to providing graduate students with meaningful, hands-on field experience while identifying ways to make advanced education more affordable and supporting the needs of our community,” said Brett Miller, Director of Graduate & Online Studies at Seton Hill.
With the growing need for teachers in Pennsylvania, the program will allow graduate education students to complete their education and enter their careers with extensive hands-on classroom experience and little to no student debt. While the Reach Forward Program with Penn-Trafford is the first such agreement between a school district and Seton Hill, plans are underway to add additional school districts and additional spots for education graduate students in the near future.
As the demand for teachers increases, Seton Hill continues to offer a variety of education programs to fit different needs. In addition to a traditional undergraduate program in education with certification options in various subjects and specialized graduate programs, Seton Hill has added two tracks in the Master of Arts in Teaching in recent years for those who did not major in education as an undergraduate and wish to become certified teachers.
Both the Master of Arts in Teaching with Early Childhood Education (PreK-4) Certification and the Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education programs can be completed in one year as a full-time student and two years attending classes on a part-time basis.
For Penn-Trafford, Seton Hill University was a natural fit for this partnership due to the University’s track record in its education programs.
“Seton Hill has an excellent reputation for producing quality teachers due to their strong foundation in teaching methodologies and their knowledge of 21st century curriculum, practices and standards,” said Dr. Matthew Harris, Penn-Trafford School District Superintendent of Schools.
