Seton Hill Surprises Shaler Area High School Student with Full Scholarship on 3/27

What: Seton Hill University of Greensburg, Pa., surprised Meagen Carter with a full scholarship for four years through the University’s Division of Natural and Health Sciences.

When: Tuesday, March 27, 10 a.m.

Where: Shaler Area High School, 381 Wible Run Road, Pittsburgh, Pa. (Report to Main Office)

Who: Meagen Carter, of Shaler Township, Pa., is a senior at Shaler Area High School. She is the daughter of Tom and Mary Carter. Meagen plans to major in pre-med at Seton Hill. Meagen is a member of Church of Our Savior in Glenshaw.

Background:
Seton Scholars Program: In 2007, Seton Hill University created the Seton Scholars Program to recognize outstanding academic achievement by incoming freshmen in the traditional undergraduate program at Seton Hill. Seton Scholars receive full tuition scholarships that are renewable for four years of study at Seton Hill and are valued at more than $113,000 each. Scholarships are awarded annually by each of the University’s academic divisions: Humanities, Visual and Performing Arts, Natural and Health Sciences, Education and Social Sciences. For the 2012-2013 academic year, Seton Hill will award ten full-tuition scholarships, two from each academic division.

Selection Criteria for Seton Scholar in Seton Hill’s Division of Natural and Health Sciences: 1350 or higher combined SAT score, high school grade point average of 3.5 or higher (weighted), honors or Advanced Placement coursework pertinent to the major, demonstration of leadership or community service, a letter of recommendation that addresses the student’s ability to excel in the field of study, and an essay written by the student describing her/his decision to major in the field chosen. Majors in this division include biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, dietetics, forensic science, mathematics and medical technology. Programs in this division include pre-med, pre-osteopathic medicine and physician assistant.
